Your schedule is over the plan limit
Your plan limits how many schedules can be turned on at the same time and how many variants one schedule can change. Save the schedule as a draft, turn another schedule off, select fewer products, or look at the Plans page.
What you seeβ
- When you select Save on a schedule that is set to turn on, a banner says Your Free plan limit is reached, with a See plans button. The schedule is not saved. The banner text is one of these:
- "Active schedules on your plan: up to 1. Save this one as a draft, turn another off, or upgrade."
- "Your plan allows up to 50 variants per schedule, and this one has" followed by the number of variants, for example "60 variants". Then "Select fewer products or upgrade."
- "Your plan allows up to 50 variants per schedule, and these collections have more than 50. Select fewer collections or upgrade."
- When you select Activate on a row in Schedules and there is no room, the banner Your plan does not allow another active schedule appears, with "{used} of {allowed} in use. Upgrade your plan or pause another schedule." and See plans. If the schedule itself has more variants than the plan allows, the same banner appears and its two numbers are the schedule's variants and your plan's limit, for example "60 of 50 in use." Pausing another schedule does not help in that case: select fewer products, as in Too many variants in the products you picked below.
- When a run starts and the schedule is now over the variant limit, for example a collection grew since you saved, nothing is changed. On the schedule's row in Schedules a red line says "This schedule changes more variants than your plan allows, so nothing was changed. Upgrade, or select fewer products." Open the schedule and a banner The last run stopped: over your plan limit shows, with "This schedule now has more variants than your plan allows per schedule, so nothing was changed. Upgrade, or select fewer products or collections." and See plans.
- On the Plans page, a banner says Some schedules are paused, with the number of paused schedules, for example: "2 schedules are paused because they are over your plan limit. Upgrade to turn them back on." More: Schedules paused by your plan. If Plans shows your last known plan: Showing your last known plan.
- On Home, a notice says how many schedules are paused, for example 2 schedules are paused, with "Your plan allows fewer active schedules, so some were paused. Upgrade, then turn them back on from Schedules." and a View paused schedules button. Home shows it only when no connection banner is showing.

Why it happensβ
Each plan has two limits:
| Plan | Schedules turned on at the same time | Variants per schedule |
|---|---|---|
| Free | 1 | 50 |
| Pro | Unlimited | 5,000 |
- The limit counts variants, not products: a product with 6 sizes counts as 6 variants.
- Drafts, paused schedules and schedules that have ended do not count.
- PopAutomate checks the limits when you save a schedule that is set to turn on, and when you select Activate. Saving with Save as a draft is never blocked.
- The variant limit is also checked each time a schedule runs. A collection that grew past the limit after you saved is stopped before anything is changed.
- If you cancel Pro, or Shopify puts your subscription on hold, the Free limits apply. PopAutomate then keeps the schedules that are running first and the ones that run soonest, and pauses the rest. Nothing is deleted.
On every plan, one schedule can also target at most 250 products or 10 collections, and the Shopify picker in 1. What to change stops at that number. That is not a plan limit.
Fixβ
Too many schedules turned onβ
Choose one:
- Keep it as a draft for now: under After saving, choose Save as a draft, then select Save. Turn it on later, when another schedule has ended.
- Turn another schedule off: open Schedules and select Pause on that schedule's row. The message Schedule paused appears. Then save this schedule again with Turn it on, or select Activate on its row.
- Upgrade: select See plans, then follow Plans and billing: Free, Pro and the trial. Come back and select Save again. If Plans shows Could not start the upgrade, paid plans are not open for your store yet and nothing is charged: use one of the two options above.
Too many variants in the products you pickedβ
- In 1. What to change, select Change products and remove products until the total is within your limit. Each product shows its number of variants, and 4. Review and save shows "This schedule changes" and the total.
- Select Save.
4. Review and save also lists your plan and its limits, for example "Up to 50 variants per schedule."
To change more products at once, upgrade with See plans, once paid plans are open for your store.
Too many variants in the collections you pickedβ
PopAutomate counts the variants of collections when you save, and stops counting once it passes your limit. That is why the banner says "more than" and not the full number.
- In 1. What to change, select Change collections and keep fewer or smaller collections. Or choose Products under Choose by and pick the products one by one.
- Select Save.
Products added to a collection later are still changed when the schedule runs, but PopAutomate counts the variants again at the start of each run. If the collection has grown past the limit, that run stops before it changes anything.
A run stopped over your plan limitβ
- Open Schedules and select Edit on the schedule. The banner The last run stopped: over your plan limit is at the top.
- In 1. What to change, select fewer products or collections, or upgrade once paid plans are open for your store.
- For a schedule that runs Once, pick a new start time in 3. When, then select Save. A one-time schedule does not run again by itself after a stopped run, so it needs a new start time. A weekly schedule moves on to its next day by itself and counts the variants again then.
Schedules were paused when your plan changedβ
Paused schedules do not turn back on by themselves, also not after you upgrade.
- Upgrade on Plans, or keep Free and turn on only as many schedules as Free allows.
- On Home, select View paused schedules in the notice. Or open Schedules and choose Paused under Show. A schedule your plan paused says "Paused by your plan limit. Upgrade, then turn it back on with Activate."
- Select Activate on its row. The message Schedule activated appears. If your plan has no room left, the banner Your plan does not allow another active schedule appears with See plans, and the schedule stays paused.
- For a schedule that runs Once, check its start first. If the start has passed and the schedule never ran, Activate is refused with the banner This schedule's time has passed, "Pick a new start date and time, then activate it." and an Edit dates button. Select Edit dates, set a new start in 3. When, choose Turn it on under After saving, then select Save.
